this is a remarkable stateside competitor to some of the best italian pinot grigios - it's bright and refreshing with spicy melon, citrus and almond flavors. a lively bite of acidity on a creamy finish makes this an especially great choice with grilled fish, but its extraordinary freshness makes it a superb companion to any lakeside meal
one of the most pleasant wines that we've tasted in a while, this napa pinot grigio has a wonderful brightness, with distinct touches of honeydew and pear and a discernible "grassiness" that is more often associated with sauvignon blanc. this is a very nice "food wine" that will keep your taste buds on their toes
this fume blanc's quintessential varietal character has made it a benchmark in california and a flagship at this popular winery. this vintage exhibits aromas of citrus, melon and lemongrass and, on the palate, vibrant flavors of lemon-lime and gooseberry with a nice mineral touch. the balanced, crisp acidity cleanses the palate and makes this an excellent companion to seafood and cheeses
we just discovered this incredible sauvignon blanc and were literally blown away – first by its brilliant hues of light yellow speared by vibrant streaks of green, and then by its aromas of exotic grapefruit and green lime. robust flavors of ruby grapefruit, kiwi and guava followed, with a stunningly crisp finish. this one is great not only with mild cheeses and fish, but is an absolute killer with our boldly flavored thai dishes
Near perfect growing conditions for this vintage led to a classic expression of the varietal, with aromas of grapefruit, lemon curd and nectarine, as well as rich, underlying notes of vanilla and homemade marshmallow. A smooth textured entry gives way to tingling acidity that shows off the citrus elements beautifully, while adding length to flavors of cantaloupe, Asian pear, and Fuji apple. The finish is persistent and refreshing with long mineral notes. We've priced this below market so that more people will give it a try - you won't be sorry!
this is a fresh and lively chardonnay that's largely fruit-driven with just a trace of oak. it's got great balance and plenty of clean, ripe citrus and tropical fruit flavor. it's a very popular choice at the mingo because it's terrific with asian-influenced dishes, but if you've tired of this one and are looking for something new, try raymond's napa reserve for a delightful change of pace
The climate of his coastal appellation causes evening and morning fog and warm, bright afternoons, a combination that produces the high quality fruit used to make this bright, elegant Chardonnay. Fast becoming a Mingo favorite, and for very good reasons. Will not disappoint!
this delicately elegant wine is filled with subtle fruit and oak nuances to seduce the palate. aromas of fresh green and fuji apples lead seamlessly to an elegant palate framed by lively acidity and a hint of the french oak in which it was aged for five months. apple crispness lingers in the long, graceful finish. some of the best chardonnay that this exceptional vineyard has ever produced, it's one of our runaway favorites
sam smith's first boat, a 1936 lap stroke skiff built by the fabled master boat wrights of penn yan, new york, remains a venerated item in our boatyard collection, but today the bourgeoning vineyards dotting seneca lake are setting perhaps an even higher standard of perfection in penn yan, where red tail ridge soars at the head of the flock. this masterful blend of riesling and chardonnay provides a lush texture on the forward palate, with flavors of clover honey, orange oil, lime and quince, followed by a tantalizingly tart citrus finish. and the good karma doesn't stop at the exceptional taste, as the vintners of red tail ridge donate a portion of the sales proceeds to foodlink, a regional food bank
The classic riesling grape consistently makes outstanding wines in the cool climate of the Finger Lakes Region of New York. With elegant floral aromas and a clean crisp finish, this drier style of Riesling is versatile with many foods. Great with the Shrimp and Grits, mussels, and poultry dishes.
after a 15-year marriage to our former alto adige pinot grigio, we're on to something new and exciting! normally loyal to a fault, it took only one sip of this remarkably fresh, straw-colored beauty to throw our old favorite under the bus. with just a hint of intriguing tartness, this little number has a beautiful palate of lime, melon and apple flavors that are lightly balanced on exceptional acidity and exhibit an interesting complexity brought on by notes of herbs, hay and a finish with a touch of sea salt. all said, it instantly became our hot little trophy wine. palm beach antics at a pensacola price
savvy pinot grigio drinkers wanting to break away from the pack have recently uncovered the secret of albarino, the spanish seductress, with its fine aroma and intense flavor. the moderate climate of the rias baixas, with its atlantic breezes and well-drained soil, produces a dry but full-bodied wine with delicate peach, melon, grapefruit and zesty lemon flavors that provide an incredibly refreshing alternative to the same old same old. spain's best-kept secret is out
the rocketing popularity of viognier in recent years is immediately understandable with just one sip of this rhone valley wine. it is at once set apart as a true classic of southern french winemaking by a wonderfully aromatic nose of intense aromas of acacia, yellow peaches and exotic fruits. it is tantalizingly weighty on the palate, underscoring its freshly balanced elegance, making it a great choice with seafood, shellfish and lighter meats
The Auvigue family has been working its vineyards since 1629 and have clearly mastered and followed the traditional methods for producing exceptional Burgundian wines. The family's Solutre Pouilly Fuisse comes from it's vineyards in the village of the same name, where the limestone soil produces a lively, mineral wine with aromas of white flowers and hazelnut and soft undertones of warm brioche and butter. A perfect fit with fish, shellfish, or the charcuterie.
a clean and focused wine, with a bright yellow-green color and the faintly exotic aromas of lime oil and spearmint. it is at once supple and juicy, with great structure and balance, a fine clarity and an intriguingly savory element on the finish. this is certainly not the chablis your mother used to drink! keep it out of the ice bucket and you'll get an even deeper, richer taste
rieslings are back in vogue with a vengeance, and this brilliant new wine from the mosel valley may well beat all others in its range. it exhibits a lively acidity with ripe floral aromas and brilliantly vibrant fruit flavors tempered by the much sought-after hint of slate that make the mosel wines world famous. a remarkable treat at the price
This pure and vibrant Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is rich in ripe and juicy tropical fruit flavors with traces of stone fruit and fresh cut lime combined with notes of fresh picked summer herbs. A great wine with fish. A great wine without fish. A great wine.
it is hard to believe that there is a domestic wine that could truly compete with the jordan cabernet as our favorite, but we think this is the one. great color – deep, dark garnet with a clean, bright red band in the rim – is just the first clue to this bold, rich blend that's jammed with flavor. the aromas of berry, cherry and a hint of new oak lead to a soft front that evolves immediately into a well-structured, tempered-fruit masterpiece, with a finish filled with ripe, soft tannins. when you are just as special as the jordan drinkers, but maybe just not quite so rich, this is the wine that may just level the playing field. 92 points in wine spectator
This exciting new blend from the very innovative, second-generation Sokol Blosser family is a complex, big, juicy, and exquisite blend of Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Syrah. It has a rich garnet color and pure fruit aromas of Maraschino cherry, strawberry preserves, and red plum with notes of tangy cranberry, ripe raspberry and loganberry, all sharpened by a bright edge of pomegranate and blood orange with hints of cinnamon. The finish is smooth and juicy.
California's High Valley contains some of the most raw and isolated lands imaginable and from the valley floor to the time worn volcanic peaks stretches the Brassfield Estate Winery where some of the coldest temperatures in the State give rise to exceptional wines. Eruption exhibits aromas of blackberries and stewed plums, giving way to flavors that are jammy. ripe and unctuous. The palate explodes with ripe blueberries, mixed berry tart, fresh tobacco leaf, and toasty vanilla notes. The texture of Eruption is perhaps its most distinguishing trait mouth coating with an endless finish. Blended with 38% Malbec, 36% Syrah, 16% Mourvedre and 10% Petit Sirah
an aristocratic wine from a fabulous vineyard, this reserve merlot smells fine and rich, with up-front blackcurrant aromas followed by more subtle tones of violet, chocolate and spice. like the essence of blackberry syrup, its tannins are soft, luxurious and complex
from one of our favorite vineyards, this wine with a soft and gentle style has a slight bite of tannin on the finish, but that doesn't diminish the supple feel and nice layer of light cherry and cinnamon flavors that make it both charming and irresistible
On many a hot summer day. we look out at the sparkling lake waters and dream of the lazy, bygone days of doing a cannonball dive from the end of the dock. These days we simply do a bottle of this exciting revival of a classic Cabernet style. It has the characteristics of a noble, old style Bordeaux: richly layered with blackberry, cassis and truffle, firmly structured with lush tannins and a pleasant lingering finish. A wine to dive into and share a splash with friends.
this is undoubtedly one of the best values in california cabernet. with scents of black currant, vanilla and subtle oak and layers of blackberry and spice on the palate, it is extremely well balanced with fresh acidity and soft but clearly discernable tannins. a great effort at an unbeatable price and one of our very favorites on the list
it's not every day that you stumble upon a wine that is not only superb in taste and texture, but also happens to pair perfectly with some of our favorite dishes (all red meats, the mingo ribs and the shrimp and grits). this phenomenal vintage from an outstanding vineyard is deep ruby in color with aromas of dark fruits, clove and spice. notes of black cherry, cassis and raspberry are followed by nuances of bell pepper and cocoa. it is a wine that is lush and textured, with gripping tannins, well-developed acidity and a lingering finish
this is an elegant and highly polished wine with a medium body that superbly supports flavors of ripe cherry, currant, herbs and spices. a finish of polished tannins gives it a lasting luster. you will never be disappointed. this is the one we drink when someone at the table is feeling particularly special - or rich - or both
This Mingo favorite offers plenty of blackcurrent and blackberry notes intermixed with subtle oak in the background. It is a delicious, fruit forward wine with substance as well as character. The ripe berry flavors precede hints of dried blueberry and the sturdy structure and lots of black fruits lend definition to the long finish.
Once in a great while you come across a wine that's been overlooked and this is one of the best we've found. Some of its trendier relatives sell for several hundred dollars a bottle, but this is what's on the tables of Bordeaux. It is wonderfully smooth and silky, yet maintains a robust body, opens up like an old book and is as elegantly sophisticated as the venerated name it bears.
Since it's founding in 1896, the Massolino Estate has gained dominance in Serralunga d'Alba, the Piedmont village that has been the seat of the Marquises of Barolo, and the epicenter of Barolo winemaking, since the early 14th century. This remarkable Barolo, an expansive wine that shows great definition and ample richness, is a testament to the time tested pedigree of the Massolino Estate. It opens to soft lines of plush tones of ripe berry, black cherry, spice and mahogany which follow through to luxurious tannins on the finish. 90 points from Robert Parker, 95 from Wine Spectator.
Forced to flee Spain during the Spanish Civil War, the Forner family established it's sterling reputation as vintners at two of the finest properties across the border in Bordeaux, Chateau Camensac and Chateau Larose-Trintaudon. Upon the family's return to Spain following the death of Generalissimo Franco, and armed with classical French wine making talents, Henri Forner established the Marques de Caceres bodega in Spain's finest viticulture area, Cenicero in Rioja Alta, where the family began to produce some of Spain's very best Crianza. This remarkable Crianza is made with a tantalizing blend of grapes - 85% Tempranillo and 15% Garnacha Tinta and Graciano. It is a deep ruby red color with fresh notes of red berries on the nose that are enriched by an earthly depth of vanilla and sweet spice. Clean and lively on tasting with ripe tannins that blend with balanced structure, it is full and fleshy in the mouth with an unending array of delicious flavors where mature tannins melt into a structure of near perfect harmony. A remarkable wine at a remarkable price.
this stellar malbec from an emerging, limited production mendoza vineyard, has become an instant mingo favorite. with a deep, clean violet color, it is at once elegant and complex with a nose that combines raspberry and cassis with floral and spicy notes. it is rich and full on the palate, with flavorful hints of mellow mineral and soft smoke, all giving way to a lingering, fleshy finish don't let the price fool you – this is a world-class wine that will never disappoint
argentina's mendoza region has aptly been called "the next napa valley, " and the wines that are being produced there are living up to the billing. tamari is the region's indigenous huarpe people's word for "passion, " and this wine is passion personified, with its intense aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry, tasty notes of cinnamon, and a hint of vanilla against a backdrop of toasty oak
One of Mendoza's best kept secrets, this compelling Malbec is produced by small vine grower families who have been producing stellar wines for generations. The wine is ripe and polished with a plush core of plum, blackberry, raspberry, morello cherries, violets, and mocha with a captivating hint of white pepper on the finish. A great choice with grilled meats and fish.
this terrific pinot has been getting spectacular press lately, and it's very well deserved as it is an elegant, cool-climate pinot noir at its best. it is fragrant, soft and flavorful, with aromas of ripe cherries, plums and gentle sweet fruit tannins which provide serious structure and length
This light to mid weight Pinot has hit its prime with a pleasant earthiness evolving around the sweet red fruit on the nose and palate underscored by a discernible background of smoky oak. It is very much a classic Burgundy profile - soft and rounded with a fine, full feel with a tannic structure that fits beautifully into the sumptuous, cushioned texture of the wine. This is a wine that will not disappoint.

From the magical and stunningly beautiful d'Esclans estate in the heart of Provence, this popular wine features enticing mango and peach flavors and a creamy texture that is backed by a lingering echo of wet stone on a lustrous finish. A well deserved 90 points from Wine Spectator
This new find actually found us on a recent stop at La Colombe d'Or in the splendid village of St. Paul de Vence in Provence. With its pretty pale-pink color, this fresh and aromatic wine has a delicate bouquet with notes of red fruit, flowers and citrus and a wonderful balance between sweetness and acidity on the palate. A welcome new addition to the list at a remarkably reasonable price for what should be considered a classic Provencal Rose.
This delightful Rose displays an intense, peony-pink color accompanied by aromas of fresh raspberry and black currants. On the palate a perfect balance between vivacity and mellowness leads to an exceptionally long and refreshing finish kept alive with a delicate impression of fruitiness.
